Chernobyl

Chernobyl

and Pripyat

HISTORY

Chernobyl was founded in the 12th century (1193). It had a history in medieval times and was affected by World War II. Pripyat was founded earlier in the 1970s as a satellite city close to the plant. Through the swampy region, and with easy access to water. It was chosen by the energy minister of the USSR, this region for the construction of a nuclear power plant. The objective was to build one of the largest nuclear power plants in the world. The construction started in 1970. The first reactor was made in 1977, the second reactor in 1978, the third reactor in 1981 and the fourth in 1983. The 5th and 6th reactors were being built, but not finished due to the explosion. The reactor that exploded was the fourth and newest reactor.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED

On the fatal night of April 26, 1986 at 1:23 AM, an experiment was taking place. In this experiment they would test the reactor’s resistance to acceleration reducing its production until almost stopping its nuclear chain reaction, then a total increase in its power together with the stoppage of the cooling water to the reactor core, resulted in an overheating of the fuel followed by an explosion in the reactor core. The problem is that in the fourth reactor in Chernobyl, night shift workers were not trained for this type of experiment, and it was planned to be carried out during the day, which had workers trained for this type of experiment, but they had to perform the night due to the upcoming May 1st celebrations and the electricity needed to fulfill the production plan. There were two explosions, the first was so much pressure on the reactor core, it opened and exploded, this first was not chemical. The second just after the first explosion, with the addition of oxygen, hydrogen and due to the overheated graphite this combined made it happen the second explosion, this was already a chemical (similar to a bomb) that exploded the ceiling releasing an immense amount of radiation through the air.

ALEXANDER YUVCHENKO

One of the survivors of the fatal night of April 26th, 1986 in Chernobyl is the Alexander Yuvchenko, at the time of the explosion he is on the block of the 4th reactor in his office room, before explosion he felt the building shaking followed by the explosion, his with a group of men go to the reactor hall Yuvchenko open the door of the hall with his shoulder and stay there, other men go to the hall but the reactor didn't exist more and they only see the core exposed, in this time the shoulder of Yuvchenko is burn. At 6 AM he went to the hospital in Chernobyl, and then was taken to another hospital in Moscow in a helicopter. He had so many transplants, transfusions and operations in skin and in bones, he went to Berlin to do a microsurgery, in which blood vessels were transferred from his leg to his irradiated arm, finally he is on the road to recovery. And he starts to recover his body, and he survives to chernobyl, but he died of leukemia, at age 47 in 2008.

THE CHERNOBYL FIREFIGHTERS

Other history is that one of the firefighters on the night of April 26th. At 1:23 a.m. they received a call to go to Chernobyl reactor because a fuel tank had exploded, these firefighters were from Pripyat, Chernobyl, Kiev and other local cities. But they didn't know the real problem,  obviously they received the fatal dose, and some of them died weeks or months later.
